I *Heart* Columbus Crafters!

Last night I had a blast in the back room of Surly Girl, finally meeting many awesome Columbus crafters! It was good to get out, especially on a weeknight, when I am usually holed up in my apartment playing with Sculpey or varnish or God knows what...
Meanwhile, here are some quality sites that are definitely worth checking out:

Wholly Craft: cute pink store in Clintonville, featuring tons of handcrafted awesomeness from all over the US, but always showing much love for Columbus crafters
TakeWrning: jewelry & accessories from recycled materials (check out the awesome bicycle tube cuffs!. Buy online from takewrning.etsy.com
Umbrella Girl Productions: handmade books, stationery, greeting cards, scarves, and purses
AmyD: very wearable (yet funky...Earwig lyrics, anyone?) handmade clothing and accessories
Melissa Vogely Woods: paintings, quilts, and mixed media works.

Plus many more I may have inadvertantly left out! I am excited for more craft meetings. They will hopefully happen every month...as long as Olivera keeps feeding us yummy chocolate cake.

New Goodies!

I have been spending time (maybe too much time!) making a variety of new jewelry & accessories for my etsy shop. Today, I received 3 packages of beads, cabs, and ephemera that I ordered from ebay and a lovely site called SkyBluePink.
My favorite purchase so far was about 50 vintage cancelled stamps, which I used to make these pendant necklaces.

I will definitely be posting more new creations over the next few weeks. Check back soon for some big news & announcements!

Crafter of the Week! 3/18

The crafter of the week is etsy seller Fluffington from the UK. Visit the etsy shop, FluffsStuffs for lots of clever and cute buttons, pins, earrings, rings, and brooches created from vintage fabrics.

FluffsStuffs was featured in french Elle magazine October 2006 ("internets top 10 buys ") & NEET magazine September to December.
I am always very impressed when crafters get exciting publicity opportunities such as these. Way to go!

One of my favorite items from the shop is:

"Space kitty in the bubble of music" unique pin brooch

a brooch with everything kitsch: mini records, musical notes, stars, lampwork glass beads, dice, and a space cat!! "one of" design; will not be repeated

Check FluffsStuffs out on MySpace too!

Snow Tree Pouch

Just in time for a light dusting of snow! Sky blue Kona cotton with white piping along the outside edge is the backdrop to this lightly frosted winter button tree. Open the dark brown and inside is a dark brown and white tree and bird cotton print. So pretty!Pouch measures almost 6 1/2 inches wide at the opening and 8 inches wide at the bottom and is about 6 inches tall. It's perfect for safekeeping small items inside a big purse, or to carry alone when you don't want a bulky bag.

Yarn-Wrapped Fun!

Yarn-wrapped beads are my new exciting jewelry adventure. They are quite simple to make, but you couldn't tell judging from the intricate designs the can create together!

I started wrapping the beads last Friday, when I had some 'down time' between classes. And I couldn't stop. I made 3 necklaces this weekend by stringing the beads on a satin cord and knotting the cord to keep the beads in place.

The first necklace has an orange center bead and shades of blues.
You can purchase this necklace HERE!

To the right is another necklace I made this weekend. It reminds me of spring!

It also matched the fabric of the chair in my craft room/office.
You can purchase this necklace HERE!

The necklace to the left is not for sale! I love it too much. I've already worn it twice since I've made it and recieved several compliments.

I will probably make a few more of the same style, though. The funky yarns add a little pizazz, and the graduated fade from dark red to light pink works well, in my opinion.
Let me know what you think!

Where To Buy

You can now purchase some of my fun rock n'roll themed items at this adorable rock n'roll themed store. It was voted "Best New Store in Columbus" by the Columbus Alive!
